A snapshot of our year

“Finding Working Links changed my life. For the first time I felt the support was in place to help me explore all my options. Just six months ago I hadn’t even considered working while raising young children. Now I’m running my own business!”

Litsa Micheal, a mum of three who came to us for support.

Over the past year our consultants met many who, just like Litsa, needed help to break down the barriers that were preventing them from achieving their aims.

Thanks to the development of some of our new services, we were able to reach even more people. Our enhanced learning and skills programmes, for example, helped to take employability skills training to a new level. We are helping jobseekers get the skills they need and we are working with employers to help them find the skilled workers they require.
Meanwhile, we continued our commitment to supporting the Government’s aims of helping children out of poverty. We developed this area of our work further and introduced our Parent Champion project.

And by working closely with organisations such as the Daycare Trust and 4Children, we offered families ways to improve childcare, housing, skills, training, health and work. We provided a single point of contact for families making it easier for them to find all the help they need - when and where they wanted it. At Working Links we believe that supporting individuals at every stage of their life means we can make a real difference to entire communities.

This includes helping people whatever their own personal barrier. At Working Links we have found that crime and social exclusion are intertwined. Offenders and their families are one of the most vulnerable groups in society. That is why this year we developed our operations in the field of offender management.
By helping ex-offenders develop new skills and gain employment, we opened up new opportunities to give them wider choices. We provided the help they needed to make a fresh start, giving them the chance to move away from crime and make a positive contribution to their community.

Our Kormo Shadin project in East London helped more than 150 ex-offenders get their lives back on track. The Warbarth programme in Cornwall, meanwhile, continued to thrive and won yet another award for its contribution to helping former offenders.
